I recently have had the opportunity to put Everscent from Sigma Outdoors to the test. Everscent is a no mess, easy to deploy hunting scent system. It is real deer urine or other natural scents that are put into little gel crystals in a twist open tube that you can hang on a branch in front of your stand or trail camera. It is very similar to automotive air fresheners that I have seen before.
The way that it works: You simply hang the tube on a tree limb with the provided twist tie, then twist open the tube to expose the gel crystals to air, and go hunt. There is no mess, no fuss, and no problems. No more smelling like deer urine when you get home from the hunt.
I have a particular stand site where I have had trail cam deployed since about July 1st. In 5 weeks I had zero pictures of any wildlife. If you have read my other articles, I typically use a salt block or some other type of attractant. At this particular spot, I hadn’t had any attractant of any sort. I guess I was just hoping that deer had always come there in the past and they would again. This wasn’t the case. About 3 weeks ago, I hung an apple scented Everscent in front of the camera. In those 3 weeks, I have now had 10 separate events where the camera took a picture of a deer. Know this, I don’t have a single picture of the deer directly walking up and smelling the little green tube but I am convinced that the scent did its job and lured in the doe. She had no other reason to come to this spot.
One of the most impressive things to me when I opened the tube was the smell. I kind of expected the Apple scent to be kind of a candy apple smell. This thing totally smelled like an apple orchard. It even had a hint of rotten apple mixed in. I don’t think it could be any more real and I am not sure how they got this into these little gel crystals but it works. I am not generally a guy that carries around a lot of urine in a bottle scent. I generally find that it is more hassle than it is worth. I think most of the time that I see just as many deer whether or not I deploy any scent but I am ready to give this a try. It is about the easiest setup of any scent system I have ever seen and it smells real. I can’t wait to try the doe estrus scent as soon as it starts getting close to the rut. Check out some Everscent at www.sigmaoutdoors.com .
