Video Review: Cabin on the Creek, Fremont, Wisconsin

Recently we had the privilege of staying at a wonderful cabin in Fremont, Wisconsin.

This cabin was amazing and the proximity to Lake Poygan makes it the perfect lodging for fishermen, hikers, snowmobilers, or general outdoorsy folks.

Make sure you go to the Cabin on the Creek Facebook page – give them a like and let them know CarrieZ sent you!  (Each person that does will receive an additional entry in the May contest {Bottle of Hoppes #9 Gun Cleaning Solution}). Continue reading »

Prayer for the Residents of Oklahoma

image

This was sent out from our marketing department at work.  I didn’t think they’d mind if I shared it.

We hold the people of Oklahoma in our hearts. We see how their lives are dramatically changed by the devastation of tornados.

The Business Side of the Outdoor Industry Podcast

I’m very excited to introduce to you my second podcast!  It is a subject sorely lacking in the outdoor industry so I thought I’d take my experiences and share it with the world.

Anyone who knows me knows I have a head for business and that the wheels in my head never really stop moving.  So this is a way for me to feed that business need within myself and share what I’ve learned, and continue to learn along the way. Continue reading »

Donate to Charity; Enter to Win a WWoCZ Tee Shirt

I rarely ask you the reader, you the listener for anything.  I give of myself selflessly and tirelessly.  Occasionally I may ask you to go like my facebook page or write a review on ITunes.

I personally don’t do a lot of charity donating, I have the select few that I donate to on a regular basis, and I’ve always donated (even if it’s just a few dollars) to charities when asked by a person in the outdoor industry.  I usually buy at least one box of Girl Scout cookies if I’m approached and I’m a sucker for the dollar candy bars for little league teams.

And if I’m on the way to the car wash and see a school fund raiser, I always prefer to give them my dollars than a gas station.

As many of you know, I don’t have kids yet, maybe someday but right now I dote on my little nephews and nieces.

One of them, my sister’s oldest son is involved in a Clean Water Charity.  I give my sister a lot of credit for getting him involved in such a serious charity.  Clean drinking water is something we take for granted as we fill up our water bottles from the bubbler at Summerfest to save that 5 bucks or the fountain at work.  To Americans, there is always clean water available.

Something so simple and yet something so invaluable. Continue reading »

Huge Bull Killed Illegally During 2012 Wyoming Archery Season

An anonymous report Sept. 14, 2012 led to a recent conviction of a Buffalo man for shooting a trophy bull elk with a rifle during the 2012 archery-only season and without the proper license.

The investigation also discovered additional violations of a game animal being used for black bear bait and an accessory to elk being shot with a rifle during archery season.

On April 19, 2013, Kelly L. Camino, 37, was fined $17,080 and had his hunting privileges suspended for five years to taking an antlered animal without the proper license and taking a big game animal with a rifle during the archery only season. He was sentenced by Fourth Judicial District Circuit Court Judge Shelly Cundiff in Buffalo, who also ordered the forfeiture of Camino’s new Ruger 7 mm magnum bolt action rifle. Continue reading »

Sunday Morning Musings – 10 Things I learned While Turkey Hunting in South Dakota

#1.  6500 ft above sea level in South Dakota is much more tolerable than 6500 ft above sea level in Utah.

#2.  Mule deer and Whitetail Deer in the Black Hills apparently breed like rabbits.

#3.  Mossy Oak Regional Pro Staffer Mike Magrew is one crazy good slate calling dude.

#4.  People who think Eastern Turkeys are the hardest species to hunt haven’t had the pleasure of early spring Merriam Turkeys.
